Tori Bindi, 13, was the high-point winner for the 13-14 girls’ age group, extending her streak to four consecutive meets. Tori won seven out of 11 individual events, and anchored both 13-14 girls’ relays.
Walker Parra, 10, won the high-point award for his 9-10 boys’ division. Walker took 1st place in six of his individual events, and posted life-best times in 10 of his 11 events. He also made six new Age Group Sectional qualifying swims (50 Fr, 50 Br, 100 Fl, 100 IM, 100 Br, and 50 Fly)! Cameron Jones, 10, was the runner-up in the 9-10 boys’ age group. Jones won two individual events (200 IM, 100 Br) and posted two new Sectional qualifying times (100 Bk, 200 Fr).
Other event winners were Jett Crowdis, 14 (50 Fr, 1650 Fr, 100 Fr, 200 Fr), Brooke Ferrara, 14 (50 Bk, 100 Bk), Ryan Funk, 18 (50 Fr, 100 IM, 50 Fl), Jacquie Kinman, 15 (50 Br), and
Nevaeh Sullivan, 10 (50 Br, 200 Fr).
“All of the coaches were excited by the large turnout of GPAC swimmers at our meet,” said Head Coach Philip Kraus. “The team performed well in the face of some great competition, and we are certainly improving.”
GPAC had many swimmers achieve life-best times in every individual event they swam: Karoline Barkley (13), Harrison Brock (14), Turner Collins (8), Sydney Cross (10), Jaimee Kinman (13), Sam Laggan (9), Ryan Longley (14), Alexander Pope (10), Travis Raymer (12), William Rosasco (15), Lily Stronko (9), Alexis Tinker (13), Cali Wilson (10), and Cami Wilson (13).
GPAC hosts the final home meet of the 2011-12 short course season February 18-19 at UWF. We hope all eligible swimmers will participate.
This was PJ’s first time competing at a national level while Caroline and Ryan have competed the last two years. This marks the third year in a row that GPAC has sent multiple athletes to Juniors!
PJ swam in three individual events and one time trial over the 3 day meet. In the 100 Freestyle PJ finished in 66th place out of 85 swimmers with a 46.99 which represent his third best time and his third time under 47 seconds. In the 200 Freestyle he was 65thout of 77 competitors. His 1:43.06 is also his third fastest time for this event. The 200 Backstroke saw PJ finish in a tie for 76th out of 99 with a 1:52.93, his second best time by .49 seconds which he accomplished 3 weeks before Juniors. In PJ’s lone time trial event, the 100 backstroke, he finished with a time of 53.05 again his second best time for the event.
Ryan led the way for GPAC by making GPAC’s first finals swim in a national level meet since 2007! His 100 Butterfly finals time of :49.74 was his third best time and garnered him a tie for 23rd place out of 86 swimmers. Ryan’s previous best times came in prelims and at high school state (49.50). Ryan also competed in the 50 Freestyle where he finished in a tie for 46th out of 68 competitors. His time of :21.21 was his 4th best time. Later in the meet he swam the 50 time trial and ended up with a 21.10 his second best time. Ryan also time trialed the 100 freestyle where he turned in a lifetime best performance of :46.84. On Sunday Ryan competed in the Long Course Invitational and finished with 2 lifetime best performances in the 50 Freestyle (24.87) and the 100 Butterfly (57.79)
Caroline competed in 4 events over the 4 days in Austin. In the 100 Backstroke she tied for 74th out of 137 swimmers with a time of :57.37. In her 100 Freestyle Time Trial she finished with a :53.14. Both times were her 6th best times in the events. Caroline’s final 2 events came during the Long course Invitational where she competed in the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Backstroke. She achieved her fourth best time in the 50 Freestyle with at 28.21 while the 100 backstroke finish of 1:07.13 was her 2nd best time.
