Philip Kraus - Head Coach

Coach Kraus, his
wife Anne, and their son Kouper
Head Coach Phil Kraus joined GPAC beginning
with the short course season in the Fall of 2007. Coach Kraus has
more than 15 years experience coaching at all levels of swimming,
with the last eight years at the collegiate level. Coach Kraus’
most recent position prior to joining GPAC was as Assistant Men’s
and Women’s Swim Coach at the University of South Carolina.
During his coaching tenure at the collegiate level, Coach Kraus’ college
athletes have achieved a high measure of success. All told, 19
All-Conference competitors, 17 individual Conference event winners,
8 NCAA Qualifiers, 3 Olympic Trial Qualifiers, 5 All-Americans, 8
Academic All-conference selections and 5 Academic All-Americans have
called Phil Kraus their coach.
Coach Kraus is a native of Indiana and is a
graduate of Ball State University where, among his many academic and
athletic achievements, he was a four year letterman on the men’s
swimming and diving team. His undergraduate degree is in secondary
education, with a minor in Aquatics: Teaching/Coaching. Coach Kraus
is working on completing his Masters of Science in Sports Studies in
the area of Sports Behavior and Performance from Miami University ~
Oxford, Ohio. He has served as a camp counselor/swim coach under
the tutelage of David Marsh at the Auburn Tigers Swim Camps five out
of the past seven years.
Coach Kraus is excited to have the
opportunity to be a part of a terrific swim club with a rich history
and he is looking forward to helping to build on the proud
traditions of GPAC.

Shannon Aiken
-Head Age Group Coach

Coach Aiken has been with GPAC since January, 2005 and has worked
with all levels from Novice to National Team since his arrival.
Coach Aiken was a letterman at Missouri State University in
Springfield, Missouri, where he graduated in 1987 with a BS in
Conservation. Coach Aiken is an avid tri-athlete and has competed as
well as trained competitive athletes for over 20 years. He was an assistant
coach at Missouri State for two seasons after finishing his
swimming and coached several summer league
teams while in college. Coach Aiken was recently named the
Southeastern Swimming Age Group Coach of the year for 2007.
He has coached several nationally ranked swimmers and senior
sectional qualifiers while with GPAC. Coach Aiken was a Senior
Group Coach with the 2005 and 2006 Southeastern Zone Team. Coach Aiken also has
extensive knowledge in strength and
conditioning training, and nutrition which he is passing along to
all GPAC
swimmers.

Alex Gillespie- Head Site Coach
Milestone Pool

Coach
Gillespie is the leader of GPAC’s Milestone program, coaching the
Novice, Blue and Green teams at that location. Alex is a former GPAC
swimmer and two time Southeastern Champion in the 100 meter
breaststroke. He was also a state high school finalist, Junior
National Qualifier, and made the
Florida State All Star team two times. He is currently a student at
UWF,
majoring in nursing.
Steve Fair-
Age Group Coach PJC Pool
Coach
Fair, the Green Team coach at our PJC location, has many years of
coaching experience at the age group, high school and masters levels. Coach
Fair is currently Pensacola High School's Head Coach and Head Coach of
Gulf Coast Swimming Masters Team. Coach Fair has coached several Junior
National Qualifiers and nationally ranked swimmers. Steven was also a
guest speaker at the 2006 ASCA World Clinic.
Steven is also an avid triathlete and marathon runner and coaches them
as well. He has a Cullinary degree from Faulkner State and worked as a
chef and restaurant owner.
