GPAC Swimmers Receive National Recognition
Raymond Burch made the 2007 Short Course Yards USA Swimming Top 16 List. The list is published in Splash Magazine and Ranks swimmers by age group, gender and individual event performances. Raymond’s time of 1:53.55 in the 200 yard Freestyle finished the year ranked 13th in the country. Congratulations Raymond on the awesome achievement and keep up the good work.
Zoe Macfarlane has been selected to attend the 2008 Southern Zone Select Camp held on the campus of the University of North Carolina in May of this year. Zoe was 1 of 28 girls chose from the Southern Zone which encompasses swimmers from Texas, Florida, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, North Carolina and West Virginia.
The fastest swimmer in each Zone, in each Olympic event (excluding the 50 free and including the 800 and 1500) is invited for a total of 13 male and 13 female athletes. An additional 15 athletes of each gender are selected based on IMX point scores. The selection process seeks to identify the fastest swimmer, per zone, in each event as well as athletes who successfully compete in a full menu of events. Zoe was selected to the camp because of her IMX score, meaning she was selected because of her ability to swim multiple events very well. Zoe had to swim the 400 Meter Freestyle, 100 Meter Backstroke, 100 Meter Breaststroke, 100 Meter Freestyle and the 200 Meter Individual Medley in order to achieve her IMX score.
This camp is viewed as an integral step for athletes to move from the local and Zone level onto the national scene. It is an honor to be recognized by USA swimming as an up and coming athlete and we congratulate Zoe on her incredible achievements.
GPAC is Proud of you both!!!
